Child rape case remanded to 29 November

ALEXANDRA – Alleged child rapist, murderer remanded in custody to 29 November.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court postponed a child rape and murder case to 29 November and remanded the suspect in custody while he seeks legal representation.

The case attracted members of child rights non-profit organisations and Alex residents who protested outside the court against the suspect being granted bail. The 35-year-old, who was a security guard, allegedly raped a two-and-a-half-year-old. The little girl subsequently died from the injuries sustained during the ordeal, which occurred during the day on 26 September this year at a Sandton housing complex, where the suspect worked and the victim lived with her mother and 14-year-old sister.

Nomalanga Ngwenya of NPO Agisanang Domestic Abuse Prevention and Training said the incident occurred in the presence of the victim’s sister, while the mother was at work. Ngwenya alleged that after the rape, the suspect threatened the sister to keep quiet about the incident or he would kill her.

Also, he allegedly ordered the sister to put a nappy on her sister and to tell her mother that the victim sustained the injuries from a fall.
