Alex mother proud of her son’s achievements

JOBURG – Limpopo lad and captain of Benny's Sports Development Academy, Dakalo Mukwevho (12) hopes to lift the Danone Nations Cup in France.

A Sandton domestic worker, Bella Mukwevho, mother to a 12-year-old boy who’s left for France with his Limpopo team to represent South Africa in the Danone Nations Cup world finals, prides herself in her son’s achievements.

Her son, Dakalo, who lives in rural Tshiozwi, near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo with his brother and grandparents, is captain of the local Benny’s Sports Academy team.

“My mother may not be here [Limpopo] because of work commitments, but she never stops calling me and telling me how proud she is of my accomplishments so far,” said Dakalo in an interview with Alex News during the team’s farewell, hosted at the Danone headquarters in Bryanston on the eve of their departure to France.

“She always tells me to work hard to better my future. She says I must play well and be a star some day and I’m determined to make her even more proud, including the possibility of bringing the cup to South Africa, particularly Limpopo,” said the first-time airline passenger who dismissed fears of being on a plane for the very first time.

“I have no goosebumps at all and I’m eager to get into that plane, see France, enjoy football and make new friends in this faraway land,” said Dakalo who freely expresses himself.

The youngster has an undying love for Kaizer Chiefs and its playmaker, Siphiwe Tshabalala. “I always emulate him in my play and I’m sure if you have an opportunity to watch my game, you will concur,” said Dakalo.

He looks forward to making a career in football and sees himself donning colours of his favourite Amakhosi. “I also hope to make the grade and maybe play in Spain for my other favourites, Barcelona,” he enthused.

The well-spoken youngster said he looked forward to possibly lifting the Danone Nations Cup trophy at the end of the tournament, describing being at the tournament as a dream come true.

“I urge other youngsters to not give up their dreams, even if theirs are outside of football. But most importantly, I urge them to take their books [studies] very seriously,” he said, sternly.
