Murder victim’s uncles bring suspects to book

ALEXANDRA – Murder victim's uncles apprehend suspects...

Four men from Tembisa helped nab two out of three suspects who allegedly murdered their nephew in Alexandra on the evening of 5 September.

The third suspect is still at large and is wanted by Alex police.

After hearing about the incident and being told about the accused from neighbours, the uncles found them the following day in Tembisa, where they had sought refuge, and took them to Alex Police Station where they were arrested.

The two accused appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody pending further investigation and a court reappearance on 21 October.

The three men allegedly stoned and beat the victim all over his body, leaving him for dead on the road. A witness, who attempted to stop the assault but failed, claimed he first saw the perpetrators beat the victim with their fists, stones and beer bottles outside his brother’s shack.

According to the witness, they were demanding money they claimed the victim owed them.

During the assault, the victim allegedly ran into his brother’s shack. The three men are said to have raided the shack and pelted the victim and his brother with the arsenal in their hands while still demanding money.

The brother managed to run away after the neighbours did not respond to their screams for help. The men then are said to have hauled the victim out of the shack and dragged him to 13th Avenue where they allegedly continued to assault and stone him before leaving him for dead.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Alex clinic where he died from his injuries a few hours later.
