Attempted murder of neighbour gets man suspended sentence

ALEXANDRA – Attempted murder victim's sympathy gets neighbour a suspended sentence.

A mechanic can thank his co-worker and victim’s peace overture for keeping him out prison.

Godfrey Zulu (26) of Mimosa in Kew was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to five years wholly suspended for three years for the attempted murder of his co-worker Fanele Ndlovu, who is also his neighbour.

On 25 June this year, the two were said to have gotten into an argument at work during the morning tea break ,which the victim thought had ended. When the victim got home after work, he found the accused, who had a beer bottle in his hand, waiting for him.

The accused then asked the victim to repeat what he had said at work. Before he responded, the accused broke the bottle and stabbed him in the chest, inflicting injuries which required treatment at the Alexandra Clinic.

The victim pressed charges against the accused, which he later wanted to drop in the interest of neighbourliness, but the court had to adjudicate in the interest of justice.
