Man remanded in custody on aggravated robbery charge

ALEXANDRA - Man remanded in custody for robbery, assault of known victim.

An Alex man who is remanded in custody will appear in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after an investigation is completed on a charge of aggravated robbery he allegedly committed with an accomplice who is still at large.

The victim, a man known to the suspect, informed the court that the suspects attacked him at about 2.30am on 6 August this year as he walked by a tavern at the corner of 14th Avenue and Vincent Tshabalala Road on his way to buy food.

He alleged one of the suspects grabbed him from behind and hit him on the head with a bottle, before pushing him to the ground. The other suspect searched and took R670 in cash from his pockets before they ran away.

In mitigation, the accused claimed he, instead, rescued the victim who was being attacked at the tavern by a man the accused mentioned by name. Case continues.
