Suspect nabbed thanks to CCTV

PARKMORE - Parkmore motorist's robber nabbed in stolen Bedfordview car.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court remanded a suspect in custody on a charge of robbery and a motor vehicle hijacking pending further police investigation.

The suspect, who was driving a Toyota Fortuner which was reported as stolen, was arrested in the afternoon on 12 August in Bramley.

This after the Fortuner was checked and found to have been stolen in Bedfordview on 5 August. A female motorist was robbed earlier the same day in Parkmore. The suspect allegedly followed the motorist to a Parkmore residence where the victim was waiting to be let in the gate. The suspect then blocked her vehicle from behind before allegedly approaching her with a gun from the driver’s side. The robber demanded her handbag containing R1 000 and jewellery worth R160 000, which she handed to him.

The man also took the victim’s vehicle keys before driving off. (This is confusing … was there an accomplice driving the robber’s car and he drove off in the victim’s?)

CCTV camera footage from the robbery scene allegedly identified the suspect who was arrested.

The case continues.
