No obstacle for Marx

NORWOOD – Local athlete partners with Imperial Toyota in new sponsorship.

Imperial Toyota has partnered with obstacle course racing athlete Carina Marx and offered to sponsor her with the latest FJ Cruiser.

The company’s partnership with Marx comes after the article, Making her Marx in ranks, Week ending 22 July.

Mario De Sousa, group marketing head of Toyota said they were delighted to join forces with a top athlete such as her. “We decided to sponsor Carina with a FJ Cruiser because we felt it would suit her sport and lifestyle and stand out enough to be a moving advert for Imperial Toyota.”

A Norwood resident, Marx has been a personal trainer for 15 years and if you’ve visited the Virgin Active at Melrose Arch, you might have spotted her in action.

In 2013, she started entering obstacle races for fun with friends, but last year she upped the ante and took part in seven competitive Black Obstacle Elite Warrior Races.

Obstacle course racing is a sport in which a competitor, on foot, must overcome various physical challenges that are in the form of obstacles. Mud and trail runs are combined and the races are designed to test competitors mentally and physically.

“When I first heard the news, I was in total shock, because it was by far the biggest sponsorship I could ever have asked for,” said Marx. She thanked the motor company for the privilege and golden opportunity to be their ambassador.

Besides being one of the top women in the sport, she now ranks in the top 10 men and has qualified for the World Obstacle Race Championships in Ontario, Canada, set to take place in October. “I can only strive to stay injury free and get fitter and stronger with every race and every training session – with the grace of God.”
