Women’s Day race a success

JOHANNESBURG - Runners raced on Women's Day in the Totalsports Women's Race to support breast cancer awareness.

Close to 13 000 runners and walkers lined up on the streets of Johannesburg and Cape Town on 9 August to celebrate Women’s Day and to show their support for the PinkDrive at the Totalsports Women’s Race.

Participants were able to choose between the 5km or the 10km race. Lebogang Phalula completed the 10km race in Johannesburg in an awe-inspiring time of 00:33:41.

In addition to the race in Johannesburg and Cape Town, the Totalsports Women’s Race also took place in Durban on 17 July.

In association with the PinkDrive, the Totalsports Women’s Race is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education about breast cancer as well supporting the improvement of services available to women across South Africa.

PinkDrive is a non-profit organisation which powers South Africa’s mobile Women’s Health Mammography and Gynecology Units which travel to semi-urban and urban areas in order to provide women with free education on women’s health and free services such as mammograms, pap smears and clinical examinations, and provide lessons on how to do breast self-examinations.
