Hope reaches out to the needy

ALEXANDRA - An NGO descended on the Alexandra Hospice on 28 May and left it spotless after a spring cleaning session and other chores.

A non-governmental organisation called Hope (Helping Our People & Environment) visited Alexandra Hospice to assist with various chores under its theme, Adding life to days.

Volunteers helped with cleaning the hospice, assisting with gardening and laundry, and preparing a special sumptuous meal for residents of the hospice.

Hope is led by two young women, Lisa Wilkinson and Amelia Bester, and this was their first official project since they founded the organisation in May last year.

The team arrived with their cleaning equipment, fresh vegetables and some clothes to donate to the hospice. The group was divided into four, the cooking team, cleaning team, laundry team and gardening team.

Wilkinson said, “In order to see the change that we want in our country, we should start sharing what we have, especially with those less

fortunate than us.

“One can never know what tomorrow has in store for them, if we are united and work as a team, we can achieve a lot. It was a wonderful

day, indeed, at the hospice, and its founder, retired nurse Grace Marutlulle was very excited with the Hope visit.”

“I am very happy when we receive special visits from organisations like Hope, this means that there are people out there who still care about

others,” Marutlulle said, adding that her hospice of 30 residents mainly relies on donations in order to run its activities.

Hope has pledged to visit every last Saturday of the month to assist in whatever capacity may be required.
