CBD school invades Alex for sports practice

ALAXANDRA - CBD school looks at Alex for sports practice facilities

Children of St Jeff’s College-Primary School near the Joburg CBD invaded the Kwa-Bhekilanga Sports and Rugby Fields in Eastbank in preparation for their school’s annual athletics meeting in June.

The 1 200-strong contingent of Grade 1 to 5 pupils swarmed the stadium to practise short-distance running. The school sports master, Nkosilomusa Ntuli said they used the facilities for three weeks because their school did not have its own yet. He added that they also used the nearby Altrec Sports Complex for soccer practice.

Ntuli added that the school transported children daily from Alexandra, Soweto, Tembisa and Orange Farm to attend classes and this might help alleviate the dire need for enrolment space at schools.

An Alex mother, Patricia Mathibela, said she was happy with the school’s education standards and was prepared to pay the R450 monthly fee which included transport for children from their homes.
