Caxton gives the youth a voice

ALEX - A paper to give young people a platform to express their views, opinions, talents and skills for the world to see.

Caxton recently held its first round of the Mother Tongue Boot Camp at the Holy Rosary School in Edenvale, which high school pupils from Alexandra, Bedfordview, Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park and Tembisa were invited to attend.

Caxton East branch manager, Christopher Mcinga, said the reason Caxton came up with this initiative was because they felt it was easier for people to express themselves in their own language. “The aim is to give young people a platform to express their views, opinions, talents and skills for the world to see, and acknowledge their powerful contribution to society. Caxton realises that the youth is our future and it is important to give them a voice,” said Mcinga.

Caxton has created a first-of-its-kind newspaper which will be titled Mother Tongue Youth. Mcinga said the first issue will be out on 18 July.

“The paper will cover content such as opinions, events, activities, lifestyle, arts and culture, technology, competitions, galleries, careers, future ideas, life coaching, sport and education,” he added.

“We would like to thank all the participating schools that have come on board. Caxton is looking forward to publishing great content created by the youth for their peers.”

Once the youngsters have received their basic journalism training, they will start submitting their content to mothertongue@caxton.co.za
