UPDATE: Fatal collision between taxi and truck on Wynberg Road

ALEXANDRA - A fatal accident occurred on Wynberg Road in Alexandra on 3 March when a taxi rear-ended a truck.

UPDATE: 10am –  According to Russel Meiring, ER24 Spokesperson, a man was killed and thirteen others injured this morning when a taxi rear-ended a truck on London Road in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, responded through the early morning traffic to the scene.

On arrival, paramedics found that a taxi had rear-ended a truck and trailer, both of the vehicles sitting in the middle of the road.

The front of the taxi was found partially wedged beneath the truck trailer.

A body of a man was found lying trapped inside the taxi showing no signs of life. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene.

It is believed the deceased had been sitting in the front of the taxi and had been flung back in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

13 other patients were found on scene, some lying trapped inside the taxi while others were seated outside the vehicle.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment.

The road was closed for some time and traffic is heavily affected in the area.

Local authorities are on scene for further investigations.

Spokesperson for Metro police, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, confirmed that an unidentified male passenger from the taxi died on the spot while scores of other passengers were seriously injured and rushed to various hospitals.

Among the injured, Minaar said there were seven males and eight females, all of them passengers in the taxi.

Minaar said no arrest had been made in connection with the accident and that the cause of the fatal collision, which was close to Alex Clinic on Vincent Tshabalala Road, would be investigated.

There are currently still heavy delays in the area.

According to ER24a man was killed and thirteen others were injured in the accident.
