MTN South Africa’s plan to assist ailing SMMEs

JOBURG - MTN South Africa believes it has finally found the right paracetamol pills to cure the ailing SMMEs sector of the economy.

MTN South Africa believes it has finally found the cure for the ailing Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) of the economy with its MTN Accelerated Business Development Programme.

SMMEs are considered as the potential future growth drivers of the economy and hence government, in partnership with the private sector, is sparing no efforts in the promotion of this economic sector to ensure it reaches its full potential.

One of the companies taking part in the programme is Alexandra business DCT (Dreams Come True Technology) Tech based in 3rd Avenue which started off a few years back as a computer repairs and maintenance company.

But since becoming involved in the programme, Collen Matodzi and Thabo Khanyile of DCT Tech have ditched the repairs and maintenance of computers and switched their focus to the development of a portal known as the School Booth.

The two Alex men, both 37 years old, have been childhood friends since their days at MC Weiler Primary School and are charting the uncharted waters of the ICT industry.

They are currently developing a schools portal that will not only track the academic progress of a child but will also provide a platform of communication between parents and teachers on a variety of issues.

The portal also seeks to link academic achievers with potential funders for their tertiary education, while at the same time providing a platform to upload educational, sporting and success stories of schools in the country.

The Department of Education will also have an opportunity to log in and access the portal for an interactive session with teaching staff, including other interested departments such as sport and social development, tertiary institutions and public-private sector companies too.

The interactive gateway web portal will also record the success stories of pupils themselves such as Alex’s own maths wizard, 17-year-old Realogile High School pupil, Kholofelo Mohale.

Mohale has not only bamboozled her teachers with her maths skills but has also set up a project of her own to teach her fellow pupils maths and to convince them that the subject can be conquered.

“These are some of the success stories provided by the media that can be uploaded on the School Booth for interested parties to access and utilise in whatever way that enhances the future of the pupil in question,” said Khanyile in an interview with Alex News.
