Dr Knak Primary School awards its achievers

ALEXANDRA - Dr Knak Primary School recently, conducted its 2015 prize giving day to the ululation of parents present to witness the children receive their awards and certificates.

Witnessed by proud parents, Dr Knak Primary School recently conducted its prize-giving ceremony for this year.

More than 20 pupils from Grade 1 to 7 received commendations in the form of certificates and awards for, among others, best subject, grade, class, sports performer and for the overall and all-rounder achievers in all subjects and behaviour at the school.

Grade 3 teacher, Maphuthi Molaudi said the event was part of the school calendar year and was held to motivate poor performers to emulate their counterparts. “It is to reward those who put in hard work but also to urge the others to do the same in order to feel and make their parents and families proud,” Molaudi said.

She said past events had worked for some pupils as they now got better grades and should, over time, also be award recipients.

Molaudi also stated that the presence of the parents was to encourage the them to develop an interest in their children’s education. “We provide them with learning programmes to enable them to understand and support their children at home and also to urge them to seek the teachers’ assistance whenever they require any assistance on their children’s performance.”

Most of the pupils, she said, generally struggled with mathematics and English. “Many of them need extra support for these two subjects to ensure they pass and grasp the concepts and word usage to avoid struggling in higher grades.”
