ALEXANDRA - Two Alex men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates' Court pending further investigation for alleged armed robbery.

Two Alex men were recently remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation for an armed robbery and hijacking, and will reappear in court after investigations are completed.

The court heard that at about 9.30am on 29 June, the two suspects, with an accomplice who is still at large, allegedly hijacked an Opel Corsa on Woodmead Drive. This after the suspects were said to have deliberately bumped the victim’s vehicle from behind. When the victim stopped to check the damage, one of the accused exited the car and allegedly pointed a gun at the victim, whom he ordered to get back into his car. The victim complied and the alleged gunman entered the victim’s car on the passenger side and ordered the victim to drive according to instructions. The gunman’s accomplices followed from behind in their vehicle.

The victim was dropped off and left in a secluded area. After the suspects left in the victim’s car, another motorist driving passed picked up the victim and drove him to Sandton Police Station to report the case.

An hour later, after the hijacked vehicle’s tracker system was activated, Alex police on patrol in Alexandra found the stolen vehicle parked on the side of the road with two male occupants, suspected to be the hijackers. The keys were in the ignition.

The suspects’ vehicle and their firearm were not found.
