Three men nabbed for attempted robbery of pedestrians

ALEXANDRA - Three Alex men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for alleged attempted robbery.

Three Alex men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of attempted robbery.

They will reappear in court after further investigations are concluded. The court heard that on 24 October this year, the three men in a red Toyota Corolla stopped alongside two male pedestrians walking on Marlboro Drive. The men told the pedestrians that they had lost something on the road but didn’t specify what it was.

Then one of the suspects allegedly jumped out of the vehicle wielding a gun and demanded to search the pedestrians. At that moment, a police car approached. The officers ordered those in the car to get out, and all the men including the victims were ordered to lie down. The gunman is alleged to have thrown the gun under the Corolla.

The pedestrians told the police what had happened and were let go. The three suspects were arrested.

The gun was retrieved and found to be a toy gun. The car was not a stolen vehicle and was returned to its owner, a relative of one of the accused.
