Female ward councillors commended

ALEXANDRA - The Joburg City Council summed up August as women's month with a motherly touch.

The Joburg City Council recently celebrated women by endowing 27 female councillors with certificates of recognition of their services to their respective constituencies and, by extension, to all women of the city.

The certification event was held to urge women not to despair as they juggle family and leadership roles.

In the Alex region, councillors Mogadi Radebe of Ward 81, and Ambi Maseko of Ward 107, received certificates for Going the Extra Mile In Service To Their Community; and councillors Joyce Ngwenya of Ward 105, and Deborah Franscisco of Ward 108, were cited for Services to The Community Under Difficult Conditions.

Acknowledging their recognition, the regional chief whip for the ANC, William Chuene, said although it is symbolic, the gesture was a reminder to all about women’s roles in the betterment of society.

“The recognition should be used to inspire all councillors to dedicate themselves to servicing their constituencies,” said Chuene.
