Alex men bust with hijacked car and victim’s gun and ammo

ALEXANDRA - Two 33 and 34 year old Alex men are pending court appearance for alleged possession of a stolen motor vehicle, illegal firearm and ammunition.

Two Alex men, aged 33 and 34, are due for a court appearance on a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela, said the men from 1st Avenue, Alex, were arrested after being stopped by police on a routine patrol at the corner of 8th Avenue and Vincent Tshabalala Road, which ironically police identify as a hijack hotspot.

Ramotshela said the men were driving a Renault Cleo which had been reported stolen in a hijacking on 7 July in Randburg. After being arrested, the suspects were taken to their place of residence which was searched and the firearm and ammunition belonging to the victim of the same hijacking were allegedly found. It is not known if the victim was called to identify the suspects.

The suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court after further investigations have been concluded.
