VIDEO: Alex’s 2-year-old DJ sensation
ALEXANDRA - The tiny two-year-old Oratilwe Madumo, affectionately known as DJ Arch Junior from Alexandra, has taken the world by storm with his ability to spin tunes like a pro.
He might still be struggling to string a sentence together, but the young South African is fast becoming a viral sensation on You Tube and Facebook, thanks to his ability to lay down some killer tunes and work a crowd.
His father Glenn Hlongwane said, “It’s truly phenomenal. We can only imagine how good he is going to be when he is older.”
DJ Arch Junior’s journey started when his father decided to buy him an iPad before he was even born so he could learn educational applications soon after his arrival in this world. The father used to play around with the iPad and mix tunes, unaware that the little boy was observing every move he made.
He would then grab the iPad and fiddle with it, copying what his dad was doing. He ended up mixing tunes on Virtual DJ and from there, to the amazement of his parents he progressed to playing on his father’s decks.

The family realised his talent and potential and created a Facebook page for him. Within a month his page received more than 14 000 likes from all over the world. This prompted his parents to create videos of the boy and upload them on You Tube.
The videos went viral and the boy suddenly became a celebrity and was sought after by other DJs who wanted him to perform alongside them. DJ Arch Junior, whose real name is Oratilwe Madumo, quickly became a darling of the audience.
Hlongwaneo said when he bought him the iPad he wanted him to learn educational apps. “I wanted to give him the life that I never had and the opportunities that were denied me. I wanted him to express himself freely.”
Boston gave him a bursary and he has already started studying and has a student card.
DJ Arch Junior has received support from all over the world, including countries like USA and Germany, and he is the ambassador of Algoriddim from Germany. On 24 February he received his new Djay 2 Apple iTunes Spotify from them.
Mother Refilwe Madumo said, “We get shoutouts from all over the world, he is a true sensation, he is way over his age, he’s too smart for a little kid.”
