The dead suspect has been linked to more than 10 criminal shenanigans, including rape, robbery and hijacking in areas such as Alexandra, Bramley, Kelvin, Marlboro and Sandringham, and dating far back as September last year.

Gatvol residents said the motorist who shot the notorious hijacker deserves to be ‘honoured and awarded a medal for a job well done’ while others called for the return of the death penalty as the ‘only panacea for rising crime’.

Kurt Kitshoff wrote: “This man deserves a medal for saving numerous lives!” While Danie Nienaber wrote: “This is exactly why every law-abiding citizen should be armed! That will put an end to all the k*k in this country! Take note ANC government, [tightening] the Firearms Control Act won’t help one little bit, and the police force is just not capable of dealing with it all!”

Vutlhari Hennking Baloyi wrote: “I’m very pleased to see such a caring fellow motorist, a brave man. A great example to all motorists.”

“Give that man a medal for removing this menace from society and making it safer for all who reside there, bravo!” wrote Doreen Louw. “Give that man a Bells,” wrote Sean van Wyk.

“I wish I could read such news everyday,” wrote Vik?êr Då Mystroh. Laro Reivilo wrote: “He is showing the police how law enforcement is done. They knew that he hijacked at that particular spot, but did nothing to apprehend him.”

Rassie Brand wrote: “My heart does not go out to the hijacker or his family. What about all the victims they have robbed and hijacked? No, we cannot judge, but people get what they deserve.” Dylan Dugmore wrote: “Well done man, well done – the only way to get rid of these f**kers is to kill them one at a time.”

Margot Janse van Rensburg wrote: “We need to look out for each other in SA! No one else will…” Gabriele Relou wrote: “All I can say is thank you!” Samantha Padayachee wrote: “Bravo to the fellow motorist… good riddance to bad rubbish.” Brett Wooller wrote: “The b*st*rd deserved what he got after rape, robbery and murder. The people’s justice has been served. The man who shot him is a martyr and has done what the South African justice system is failing [to do].”

Georgie Berriman Myburgh wrote: “Wish we could give the guy who shot the b*st*rd a reward, well done. One less piece of scum on the streets. Will pay for training. If our police cannot do the job, we can. And he’s saved the taxpayers plenty of money.”

Shirley Bird wrote: “He is a hero… he put his life on the line to save others from this despicable character, and therefore saved many more… lives… charges [are] out of the question… he should be rewarded in some way.”

Bruno De Carvalho wrote: “Well done to the motorist, it took balls! And well-deserved you stupid s.o.a.b [hijacker].”

Nancy Albertyn wrote: “South Africa needs more civilians like this if there is any hope of good prevailing over evil. The justice system should reward this brave civilian!” Ben Mpofu wrote: “I say give that man more ammo.” Maggz Khanye wrote: “If we had more men like this during every hijacking, there would be no more hijackings in SA. Give that man a Bells!”

IanandElaine Holland wrote: “Give the guy a medal, and $40,000 cash, (half the cost of a trial and jail time).” Lynette Boudene wrote: “I salute the civilian for doing his part for a fellow law-abiding citizen. My husband, my sister and myself were in a hijacking in mid-February this year. I had a revolver [shoved] in my face, and then [at] the back of my head while… on my knees, facing the tar road. The worst part was fearing for the life of my loved ones. This civilian who put his own life at risk to save another’s is officially my most favourite hero!”

Louisa Vermaak Bruckner wrote: “Oh my, karma can be such a b*tch! One down, plenty to go.” Makgotso Missy-Mash Masehla wrote: “A thorn has been [plucked] from society’s bum. What remains [to be seen is] what the SA justice system will do with this man [who] deserves the highest [commendation] in the country for bravery. [Thieves and] killers are set free, whereas innocent people are rotting in jail.”

Nthaby Solomzi wrote: “Criminals have declared a war and we cannot negotiate with them, every minute we lose our loved ones. Give that man a Bells. Hard working people cannot be terrorised by a handful of scum. If police can’t find the second suspect in few weeks, they must just close that case [and] save taxpayers money. And I hope someone, somewhere shoots the other suspect. It’s the only way to deal with these criminals.”

Nick Peterson wrote: “Oh, wait and see how they will judge this lifesaver, he saved many.” Morgan Maimane Maimane wrote: “They will question if he had fired a warning shot before he killed the hijacker.”

#tsikinyinghead#” Tuelo Thomas Tukz wrote: “Maybe it’s time we all get armed and level the playing field…”

  1. The loss of human life shouldn’t be something to celebrate and this just shows the physical and emotional challenges being faced by the public. The gentleman who shot took the ultimate decision of ending the hijackers life and sparing the life of 100s if not 1000s of other innocent people. I say well done and thank you Sir. I don’t think more guns and a vigilante approach is the solution though, as the most dangerous criminals are those who have nothing to loose and we unfortunately have too many of those in South Africa.
