Bosch Power Tools SA and Crawford private schools have provided the Alex Aids Orphans Project pupils with a more hands-on understanding of natural science, while making a meaningful contribution to charity through the hosting of the Inter-Crawford Sports and Tech Festival.

The 2014 Inter-Crawford Sports and Tech Festival, which was held from 24 to 26 June at Crawford Preparatory Sandton, saw pupils create seven go-carts – one from each respective school – using tool hampers supplied by Bosch Power Tools SA.

The tool hampers consisted of a cordless sander, cordless drill driver, a cordless jigsaw, a Bosch spray gun, a Dremel multi-tool kit with various Dremel accessories and attachments, a Dremel Versaflame and a kitbag.

A tool hamper was subsequently donated to the orphans project in Alexandra which supports more than 50 Aids-affected households, most of which are headed by grandmothers. Crawford schools’ teacher Warren Metzer said, “Crawford Preparatory Sandton has a dynamic social upliftment programme which aims to make a positive difference in our community.”

Metzer thanked Bosch for believing in the Crawford schools’ skills development initiative and for empowering children with the tool kit donation. Alex Aids Orphans Project founder Diana Teffo said the tool hampers will be used at local technikon colleges for practical purposes.

“These students will also be able to go out to the houses we support and carry out all necessary DIY work and home renovations. This [will] not only develop their skills, but also save [the houses] substantial costs in calling out approved contractors.”

She said the savings can then be diverted to more essential functions such as food relief. “A big thank you goes out to Bosch and Crawford. This is far more than just tool donations, this will make a measurable and meaningful difference to the lives of so many people in so many different ways.”
