ALEXANDRA - A 22 year old man is under police guard in hospital after being shot and injured in an attempted car high jacking.

A man (22) is under police guard in hospital after being shot and injured in an attempted hijacking.

The incident happened during the day on 1 September at the corner of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 20th Avenue, Alexandra.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the man and an accomplice approached a man driving a Chrysler.

One of the hijackers pointed a gun at the man who pulled out his firearm and shot the suspect hitting him in the abdomen with the bullet exiting his back. Maphakela said the two suspects fled the scene and police were alerted to the incident by the public. The other suspect is at large and Maphakela is asking those who witnessed the incident to come forward with information. He urged the public not to attempt to apprehend him as he may be armed and dangerous.

Maphakela said the injured suspect was in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital and will appear in court after his recovery.
