Alex’s oldest citizen gets his own toilet

ALEXANDRA - The township's oldest citizen, Johannes Mdelwa Nkosi, will finally get a toilet of his own after sharing both the toilet and bathing facilities for most of his life with nine families on the same property.

Alexandra’s oldest citizen, 105-year-old Johannes Mdelwa Nkosi, will finally get a toilet of his own after sharing toilet and bathing facilities for most of his life with nine families on the same property.

Building materials retailer, Cashbuild has come to the rescue of this citizen who is older than the township, and will build a bathroom and toilet for him.

“Cashbuild is about community partnership and upliftment,” said Cashbuild CEO Werner De Jager. “We don’t just talk, we really try to walk the talk and make a meaningful difference to our customers’ lives.”

Musicians and community builders, Mandla Spikiri and Nkiyase Mondlana along with Alexfm, approached Cahsbuild with the view of sourcing assistance for Nkosi.

Nkosi’s son-in-law, Thabiso Ishmael Mokoena (65) who is looking after the old man was overjoyed that they would be receiving assistance. “We as a family are extremely happy with this gesture,” he said. “You know at his age he needs a lot of extra attention and this toilet facility has come in handy.

“The previous one we shared with other families was a source of pain and concern for us.”
