Man smashes brick in niece’s head and another beats up his girlfriend for being pregnant, with his own child

An uncle of a 1st Avenue family has been arrested by police after he went berserk and beat his sister and her daughter.

The uncle had started throwing clothing items and furniture out of the house and would not entertain any form of intervention from family members.

According to Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela the man’s actions were not out of provocation and he turned nasty when questioned by family members.

Maphakela said after the beating his sister and his niece, the 2 sought refugee with the neighbours.

When things seemed to have calmed down, the niece left her bleeding mother in the care of the neighbours and returned to the house.

On arrival, her uncle picked up a brick and smashed her on the forehead. The two injured victims were taken to Alex Clinic for treatment while the neighbours called the police who arrested the man.

The uncle would be charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Meanwhile, a Tsutsumani man who beat up his pregnant girlfriend has been picked by the cops on a charge of common assault.

Police said the man beat his girlfriend after she told him he would be a father soon as she was pregnant. Annoyed by this, the man is said to have slapped his girlfriend several times in the face with an open hand.

Maphakela said both men would appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
