Man sjamboks couple for ‘hiding his girlfriend’

ALEXANDRA - A woman and her boyfriend were beaten up by a sjambok wielding man who accused them of 'hiding' his girlfriend.

A woman and her boyfriend were beaten up by a sjambok-wielding man who accused them of ‘hiding’ his girlfriend.

According to Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the female victim of the beatings said she and her boyfriend had gone to a party with a female friend when she received a call from the boyfriend of a second friend.

The boyfriend of her second friend demanded to know where his girlfriend was. The victim told him she did not know where she was as she had been at home when she left for the party.

The irate boyfriend – who has since been arrested and appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm – then accused her of hiding his girlfriend, which she denied.

The suspect then waylaid the couple as they were returning home. He produced a sjambok and beat up the woman before turning his anger on her companion.
