Ekukhanyisweni Careers Day prepares learners for high school

Grade 7 learners at Ekukhanyisweni Primary School in Alexandra learn about different career paths and professions.

Ekukhanyisweni Primary School in Alexandra recently hosted a career day expo event for Grade 7s at the school.

Learners were encouraged by different professionals to focus, have a vision and take career paths that are close to their heart and part of their passion.
Life orientation teacher Leta Sbiya said the event was part of the curriculum which compels them to host it at least once a year to expose learners to different kinds of professions that they can pursue post-matric.

“The event aimed to help learners get a clear understanding of what is required to become a certain professional. We’ve invited professionals from different fraternities to come and tell our learners about their jobs. We believe that events of this nature can help our learners choose their career path wisely,’’ she said.

Sbiya added that most of the learners go until Grade 12 not knowing what career path they will take when they finish school.
“We help our learners gain a clear understanding of what is required of them to pursue their future professions and we believe that the event has served its purpose to educate and inspire our learners.’’
