Mouthwatering clash between Amajananda and Rovers await Alex football lovers

Amajananda FC and Polokwane Rovers have both booked their spots in what is expected to be a mouthwatering final of the ANLFA Top 8 of the Promotional League come August 27.

Amajananda FC and Polokwane Rovers will battle it out for the prestigious Top 8 final of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (ANLFA) Promotional League of the 2022/23 season.

This after the 10-man Amajananda and United Stars huffed and puffed for 90 minutes with no goals for either side but numerous missed opportunities and Amajananda only managed to prevail on penalties, beating Stars 3-1 at the Alexandra Stadium on August 20 to book its spot in the final that will be played on August 27 at the same venue.

Amajananda were reduced to 10 men after their midfield maestro-cum striker Kgotlello Mello received his marching orders in just 30 minutes of play for an early shower after receiving a second yellow card for rough play in a game where his side was a bit sluggish after some thrilling quarterfinal games the previous day, August 19.

Rovers beat a determined Norwood Young Stars by a solitary goal from the boot of Kabelo Mofokeng via a penalty that was awarded to his side five minutes into the second stanza of the game which was also characterised by numerous misses from both sides.

Rovers managed to cling to the solitary goal and the slender win enabled them to book their spot in the final. In the quarterfinals, Amajananda dispatched FC Gauteng and Rover saw the better of Promotional League champions Gomtown Boyz.

United Stars on the other hand bungled out Black Musk FC while Norwood Young Stars tripped Amaskills FC on their way to the semis.
Football lovers in Alexandra can now look forward to what could become a mouthwatering clash between Amajananda, a side that has returned to the Johannesburg Men’s Regional League following their relegation at the end of the 2021/22 season, and Rovers.

Chairperson of the LFA Joe Seanego urged the two teams to ‘whip up’ their supporters to come to the stadium to pack up the stands and ensure ‘we witness a spectacle of a final on August 27.

Winners of the quarterfinals were each awarded kits and so did the two finalists, courtesy of the chairperson Seanego and his executive in the LFA.
