Alex matrics for the Class of 2023 have been urged to apply early for the Sasol Foundation bursary programme whose applications have now opened.
Sasol Foundation head Noxolo Kahlana said the bursaries target Grade 12 learners from disadvantaged backgrounds from all over the country who will commence their tertiary studies in the 2024 academic year, and first- or second-year students who are already studying at universities.
The bursary programme aims to support talented individuals in pursuing full-time undergraduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Stem) fields, and this reinforces the foundation’s commitment to empowering the next generation of South African leaders in these disciplines, Kahlana said.
It offers individuals – who are South African citizens and have obtained acceptance or provisional acceptance for studies at a South African public university or university of technology for the 2024 academic year – financial support and creates opportunities for aspiring students to excel in Stem disciplines, which are crucial for the country’s future development.
She said priority will be given to Stem degree studies aligned with future needs, including specialisations in disciplines such as engineering and technology, data science, and agricultural science, among others. By focusing on these areas, the foundation aims to address critical skills gaps and promote a sustainable and innovative workforce, she added.
The foundation will provide holistic support to its bursary recipients as part of recognising that academic success goes hand in hand with personal and professional development.
