Galxcoc partnership with SAJBD to deliver much more than screenings in Alex

The partnership between Galxcoc and the SAJBD is expected to deliver a multi-layered programme for Alexandra that will also include entrepreneurship initiatives in the township.

The chairperson of the Gauteng chapter of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) Harold Jacobs said more wellness programmes were on the cards for the community of Alexandra.
Two programmes for the adult community have been earmarked for June 17 and August 9.

“We are also looking at developing a partnership programme with the chamber and Clover to deliver business projects and opportunities for the enterprising community members.

“The vision for our relationship is much bigger than just screenings as we will venture into other areas of entrepreneurship in the future,” Jacobs said.
He said this at the Alex Human Rights Wellness Event at the Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce (Galxcoc) offices in Wynberg on Human Rights Day.

Galxcoc has partnered with the SAJBD in Gauteng as well as Clover, Workforce, Fingertips of Africa, and the South African Association of Audiologists to deliver a wellness programme for the vulnerable children of this iconic township.

“As a school whose learners are 90% from Alexandra, we are delighted by the advent of the screenings programme as we often see the dire need in our learners but due to limited resources, we’re unable to assist sometimes,” said Webster Dlamini, the head of the department for languages at Sandtonview High School.

Agnes Malatjie, the chamber’s stakeholder and community manager, said they were delighted by the Gauteng SAJBD partnership and described it ‘as just a tip of the iceberg for bigger and greater things to come’.

Malatjie concluded the chamber wanted to emphasise that wellness was a human rights issue and hence the event was held on Human Rights Day.
