Alex daycare calls on parents and teachers to work in unison
Connie Day Care principal Cindy Khumalo urges parents and teachers at the nursery school to work as a collective in an effort to lay a good foundational phase development for the future bright sparks.
Sixteen children from the Connie Day Care nursery graduated to primary school and newly appointed principal Cindy Khumalo wished them well in their new educational journey and development.
Khumalo, who has since taken over the reins at the daycare as the new principal following the death last October of founding principal Constance Cebisile Ntini, was addressing parents at the graduation ceremony and encouraged them to support their children in all that they do, be it in academic achievements or in the sporting fields.
She said the education of a child was not just a teacher’s responsibility but was a collective effort from the teachers and the parents. “It’s for this reason that I urge you as parents and teachers to work closely with one another to ensure the children get the best foundational education as possible as this will auger well for years to come.
“As parents, we need to be involved and take a personal interest in the development of our children and encourage them all the way. It is through showing such interest in their development that we as teachers and you as parents can work in unionism for the proper moulding and nurturing of our children to become better citizens,” she said.
Chairperson of the Alexandra Early Childhood Development Forum Pheladi Makelani said their job as a forum is to assist and work closely with principals of affiliated nursery schools to solve various issues and challenges that they face on a day-to-day basis.
She said regular monthly meetings are held with the principals to discuss issues that may be an impediment in the execution of their work and also represent their interests with various stakeholders, paramount of which is the Department of Basic Education.
