Afrika Tikkun’s Champions League games are not just about soccer

Afrika Tikkun’s Champions League boys will not just play football but will be moulded into gender-based violence fighters and champions of LGBTQIA+ for good citizenry.

Afrika Tikkun has reiterated that the Champions League would not just be about playing soccer but also developing the players holistically.

This was the message from Thomas Taole who is Tikkun’s subject matter expert in health and fitness. He was speaking at the recent handover of kits to Alex teams that will participate in the matches that are being sponsored by Tikkun in Alexandra, Braamfontein, Diepsloot and Orange Farm.

“We want to build strong foundations for our youth just like a tree needs good roots and fertile soil to provide for its growth and the bearing of fruit, and also be able to withstand strong winds and heavy rains including other challenges during its lifespan that can threaten its very existence.
“The same applies to our children and soccer players. They need all the tools and ingredients to be moulded into good and responsible future citizens of this community and the country at large,” Taole said.

Besides playing soccer matches, Taole said the boys would be taken through their paces in matters that will groom them to be better citizens such as using their masculinity for better manhood, and how to relate with the opposite sex to respect their girlfriends and future wives and treat them with dignity.

“They will also be taught good fatherhood, self-respect and respect for others and to learn to appreciate and respect lesbians, the gay, the queer, transgendered, bisexual, intersex and the pansexual. It’s not their own making and hence we have to respect them too as no one chooses their gender,” Taole told Alex News.

“These are some of the development programmes that the players will go through as part of the Champions League. We want to mould them and develop them holistically.”
