Ma Afrika blasts its way into SAB League

Ma Afrika FC wins a hotly contested match in the final of the ANLFA Promotional League game at the Alexandra Stadium on June 12 after they blasted their way to the SAB League with a 3-1 scoreline.

Alexandra will now have a complement of six teams that play their soccer trade in the SAB League following the promotion of Ma Afrika FC.

Ma Afrika’s promotion came after a tightly contested and emotionally charged play-off game of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League between Ma Afrika and Norwood Young Stars at Alexandra Stadium on June 12.

Ma Afrika, who commanded the first half of the game which ended with neither side managing to find the back of the net, won the play-off match 3-1 with Ma Afrika goal minder Sphamandla Nkosi doing well to only be beaten once.

Ma Afrika’s goal chances in the first half far outstripped those of Stars as its wingers kept pumping balls into the 18-yard area for the strikers. The enterprising Ma Afrika right winger Goaletwe Mogotsi, who contributed the bulk of the crosses into the box and attempts on goals, was fouled by Stars keeper Alberto Joao.

Mogotsi was taken off on a stretcher and was reportedly taken to a hospital by his dad who was watching the game.

In the second half, Stars coach Didier Sha made three attacking substitutions in Phillip Nkonyane, Brandon Pierre and Alinya Alao-Chanou. They all immediately made an impact on the game with central striker Pierre making a nuisance of himself to the Stars defenders who could not contain him.

It was not long before Pierre found the back of the net with a masterpiece goal that left Ma Afrika keeper Nkosi bamboozled. However, shortly after the restart Ma Afrika’s Flulufhelo Nyadzane banged in the equaliser.

Soul Malange added a second goal for Ma Afrika in quick succession but immediately after, Stars, Pierre was roughed up in the box as he tried to unleash a thunderbolt and the referee pointed to the spot. The opportunity to level matters was messed up by Alao-Chanou who missed the penalty.

Ma Afrika’s Rofhiwa Nemakonde nailed the final nail into the coffin of Stars who felt they were denied two other penalty opportunities. which could have changed the complexion of the game.
