Mr and Miss Alex Heritage crown senior finalists

More effort and showing commitment will determine the winner in September.

Nine grannies made it to the finalists for Mr and Miss Alex Heritage Seniors and were crowned at their sash ceremony that was held at Eastbank Hall on May 6.

The founder of Mr and Miss Alexandra Heritage Seniors, Hlengiwe Ngubane said the purpose of the ceremony is for Alex legends to tell their stories and the stories that made Alex so that the younger generation gets to know the history of Alex from the horse’s mouths.

“Each month we will have a programme with our finalists that is called ‘listen to my story’ where they will be telling their stories, doing activities and they will also have to do community work. What will determine our winner in September is putting more effort and commitment into every activity that we will do,” Ngubane said.

One of the finalists Dudu Moropa (75) said, “The journey has been quite interesting, we became friends and we share ideas, for instance, I visit crèches and give them books to read as early readers. We also share the word of God and do exercises together – it has been a beautiful journey.”

Moropa said her being crowned as a finalist means a lot as she will be winning more souls for her church, and for her pageant. “I will always be wearing my sash because it acknowledges who I am.”
