Mob justice aims to end crime

Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela has commended the police for responding swiftly and securing the suspects from mob justice so that they can receive a fair trial.

On Thursday, May 5 at about 11:50 Alex Police Station received a complaint that a mob at 18th Avenue, Jukskei Bridge allegedly necklaced two male suspects with car tires.

The two men were accused of terrorising the community. Apparently, they broke into an old woman’s house in the early hours of the morning and took a plasma TV and other valuables.
Constable Tshwarelo Eliot Mabulane said, “Upon arrival, the Alex police managed to save the two suspects from the angry mob and they agreed to take the police to the five addresses where they had kept all the valuables they had stolen.”

He also added that the valuables were recovered and among them were three decoders, bank cards, and clothing items.

According to Mabulane, a total of six suspects were arrested, four males and two females. They were all detained for the possession of the suspected stolen property. “The police are still looking for one remaining suspect,” he added.

Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela has commended the police for responding swiftly and securing the suspects from the mob so that they can receive a fair trial. She also appreciates the understanding of the community when the police advised them not to take the law into their own hands and allow the police to do their own investigation.
