Alex Northrand LFA has a new chair

ALEXANDRA -– Seanego was voted into the hot seat in ‘one of the most democratic, free, fair and transparent elections’.

There is a new leader of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (LFA) and his name is Johannes Seanego.

Seanego was voted into the hot seat of the Alex Northrand LFA in what was described as ‘one of the most democratic, free, fair and transparent elections ever held in the history of local football in the township’.

The elections were held on March 27 following two postponements and after the second postponement, a committee of five members known as the Local Elections Committee was roped in to oversee the elections and ensure there was a free, fair and transparent electoral process.

The committee, headed by Alex resident and former Alex United chairperson and longstanding football servant Nkani Dube, comprised other township members in former top Premier Soccer League referee Sylvester ‘Profesori’ Ndaba, and former Alex football star and a legend of the game and founder of the Map Games, Maimane Alfred Phiri.

The fourth member of the committee was legal fundi Mfundo Tukane from Lombardy East, who was roped in as the legal officer to help interpret the LFA constitution and guide the committee on any legal matters that may have arose in the process.

Seanego emerged victorious after a tightly contested election and garnered 13 votes to the 11 of former chairperson Maisha Molepo and eight for Banele Sangcozi.

Other elected members of the LFA working committee included deputy chair Eric Paul, who was unanimously elected after his rival and incumbent secretary-general Malvin Khumalo withdrew, while a third candidate in Stanley Makhubela of Gunners was a no-show at the elections.

The position of second deputy chair who according to the rules must be a woman went to Judith Lengwati who beat incumbent Venita Masisi by 17 votes to 14. This was after the third candidate Duduzile Myeki withdrew from the race.
