Man hijacked coming from Pan African Mall in Alexandra

ALEX – Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station said that the suspect that opened the driver's door pulled the complainant out of the car and moved him to the back with his face down.

A man has reported a hijacking case at Alexandra Police Station after occupants of an Avanza with an unknown registration hurled insults at him before forcefully removing him from his car.

According to Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station, the complainant said he was driving a white Chevrolet Utility with registration number HM86WJGP and was going home from Pan Africa Mall.

“The complainant was driving towards Roosevelt Street and 8th Avenue approaching a traffic light which was on caution. He stopped and an Avanza stopped next to him. A few minutes later, the complainant heard a voice swearing at him. When he checked from his side, he saw a man with a firearm. The man then proceeded to the passenger seat and another man with a firearm opened the driver’s door and instructed him to put his hands on his head and not look at them,” explained Mbatha.

Mbatha said the suspect who opened the driver’s door pulled the complainant out of the car and moved him to the back with his face down. The man was eventually dropped off in Alex and he called a friend who took him to the police station. The value of the vehicle is R90 000.

No one was injured and an investigation is underway.
