Alex matrics top in rogue year

ALEXANDRA – Mohau Sekoaila is happy to have completed matric to go to tertiary and start a career and an after-school life.

The Matric Class of 2021 may have endured what Alex matriculates described as ‘a rogue two years of Covid-19’ but they made a meal of the rogue years to obtain the best results compared to their previous counterparts.

Alexandra peace ambassador and educational issues monitor Thabo Mopasi has commended the Alex Matric Class of 2021 for a sterling performance despite the severity of the odds that were stacked against them.

Speaking to Alex News, Mopasi said he takes his hat off for this class of matrics which has shown unprecedented resilience and resolve to succeed come what may.

“On behalf of civil society organisations in Alexandra, I salute you all – students and community – for the role played in ensuring the success of this class of matrics.

“I would like to thank you, the community builders and workers, from the bottom of my heart as it was never easy for many families you assisted with food hampers, sanitisers, sanitary towels and all.

“Today we stand tall as our children wrote their matric examinations during a difficult time and many of them have come out on top and achieved beyond our expectations, considering what they had to deal with.”

Alex High School matriculant Lesego Moshape, who plans to study cosmetology at the Central Johannesburg College in the CBD as a lead-up to opening her own beauty salon, said she was delighted with her marks despite having done so during a tough year.

“The past two years have been a rogue time of Covid-19 for us. We started our matric prelude class with a harsh lockdown and curfews and the likes but we came out and fought back and made our mark,” Lesego said.
