Suspects make off with alcohol, cellphones and cash after robbing tavern

ALEX – The estimated value of the items is R24 040.

Police detectives are investigating a business robbery that left workers shaken on December 7.

According to Alexandra Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the incident took place at about 22:40.

“The complainant alleges that he was busy at the tavern he works at when a man came in and ordered an energy drink, two cigarettes and left. The man came back a few minutes later with two Other men, armed with firearms. This is when they pointed the firearms at him and instructed him to lie down while they tied him up with a cable tie,” explained Mbatha.

Mbatha added that when this happened, the complainant was still with four customers. One of the men went to the lounge and came back with his colleague, with a firearm pointed at him. A woman was instructed to open the till and they took the cash from there.

“They took back the woman and also tied her up with a cable tie. The suspects also took five cellphones and alcohol before they left. No shots were fired and no one was injured,” said Mbatha.

The estimated value of the items taken is R24 040.
