Alex FM falls silent after it was looted

ALEX – Alex FM staff say they don’t know what the future holds for them following the looting of the station.

Local community radio station Alex FM is off the air until further notice after it was broken into last night, July 12, and looted to the bone of all its broadcast equipment and related items.

This is according to reports from the Alex FM Facebook page. A community member who asked to remain anonymous said the station was looted last night and claimed that staff were currently stranded outside. A member of staff confirmed the demise of the station and said any comment would have to come from the station manager.

The source claimed that everything in the building had been taken and a desk ransacked for personal belongings – anything valuable was taken. “We don’t know what the future holds for us but we will have to take every hour as it comes until we receive word from management on our future,” they said.

In reply to an inquiry as to the whereabouts of the station manager as he was taking calls, the source said he could be in meetings.

This is a developing story and Alex News will keep posted on the developments as they become available.
