Alex police officers praised for their ‘good-heartedness’

ALEXANDRA -– Instead of handcuffing two alleged minor thieves, good-hearted Alex officers dug deep into their pockets to buy them food parcels to share with their families.

The Station Commander of the Alexandra Police Station Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela has commended two of her members for their ‘good-heartedness and love of their job’ as they went beyond the call of duty to help two young girls caught stealing chocolates.

A statement from the Alex SAPS described the two officers who attended the scene of the crime at the Alex Mall as ‘Godsent’ after exhibiting extreme compassion for the minor children who told them hunger drove them to steal.

When interviewed, the girls, aged seven and 10 years, said there was nothing to eat at their homes and hunger had driven them to steal the two chocolates so they could have some Christmas cheer.
Just days before Christmas, the two minor girls were apprehended by security guards who then called the police. Warrant Officer Masilo Sekoba and Constable David Mathebula were dispatched to the scene of the crime.

After the two children were pointed out to them, the two officers interviewed them, after which they then proceeded to the store where the crime allegedly took place and were told in no uncertain terms by management that they did not want to press any charges against the little girls as they had nothing to gain from it.

The two good-hearted policemen went above and beyond their call of duty and assisted the children by buying them Christmas groceries to take home and share with their families on Christmas day, the statement said.

The children were provided counselling and taken home by the two gentle giant officers. The two officers received a pat on the back from Magudulela, who praised them for going beyond the call of duty by buying the two children Christmas groceries to share with their families, the statement added.
