NPO dedicated to feed the community of Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – NPO needs sponsors to keep feeding the community for 20 more years.

Kufike-Izazi Community Health Care is a non-profit organisation that has been feeding disadvantaged families from Alexandra for two decades.

Fikile Zulu, founder of Kufike-Izazi said they were in need of sponsors as the demand for food was dire since the coronavirus pandemic. “We have been feeding our community for years so we already have a system in place and we have families that are on our database, so it is very difficult and heartbreaking to turn people away due to not having extra food packs that we can distribute,” explained  Zulu.

With the assistance of her children, Zulu has managed to keep the centre afloat. “In these trying times, there aren’t a lot of people that are keen on voluntary work, so my children have been a big help since they also assist in finding sponsors like the recent vouchers we distributed to the youth of Alex,” she said. “I appreciate the help of our existing sponsors but I imagine we can help a lot more people if we get more sponsors to also assist with different programmes Kufike-Izazi offers.”

The centre also offers gender-based violence counselling, substance abuse counselling, workshops etc. but food security is at the forefront. “We distribute nutritious food parcels twice a week [Tuesdays and Fridays] as we are aware that some families solely rely on them,” added Zulu.
