Covid-19: Allan Gray Orbis Foundation extends its 2020 Fellowship Programme

JOBURG – The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is calling on Grade 12 learners to apply for the Foundation’s 2020 Fellowship Programme.

Grade 12 learners who are interested in entrepreneurship will now be able to apply for the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship Programme until 29 May, as the deadline for applications has been extended.

The foundation said the deadline had been extended to ensure applicants who show potential were not disadvantaged by the national lockdown, implemented to assist in reducing the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the foundation, the programme gives learners a stepping stone to nurture their entrepreneurial potential so that they can grow into well-rounded responsible entrepreneurs.

The Allan Gray Foundation offers high school scholarships to learners who are in financial need, have a curious entrepreneurial mindset and are high academic achievers. “The Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge is aimed at cultivating a culture of entrepreneurship among high school learners, using gamification. The association is an alumni of Allan Gray fellows who have graduated from the fellowship programme and offers lifelong support for their entrepreneurial journey,” said the foundation.

“Fellowship recipients, known as Allan Gray Candidate Fellows, receive support and development to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, as well as funding for university studies.”

Applicants must intend to study towards a degree in commerce, science, engineering, law, humanities, arts and health science (excluding medicine, veterinary science and dentistry) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits); University of Johannesburg (UJ); University of Cape Town (UCT); Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Rhodes University (RU); the University of the Western Cape (UWC); University of Stellenbosch (SU), the University of Pretoria (UP), University of the Free State (UF) or University of Kwa Zulu Natal (UKZN).
