Patients with chronic diseases can now collect their medication in Alex Plaza in less than three minutes

ALEXANDRA – Alex patients with chronic illnesses can collect their medication any day of the week.

In an effort to eliminate long queues at public health facilities across the province, the Department of Health and Right ePharmacy have joined forces to introduce an ‘ATM-like’ pharmacy dispensing unit in Alexandra.

This allows patients with chronic diseases to collect their medication at their convenience without taking a day off or closing their businesses.

Right ePharmacy’s flagship Pharmacy Dispensing Unit which uses electronic and robotic technology to dispense and label medication for patients was recently opened at Alex Plaza in Wynberg.

David Molene, an IT specialist at the company said the facility would help to minimise long queues at local public clinics.

“Most of our facilities are located next to strategic public areas like taxi ranks and shopping malls for convenience purposes. The patients can collect their medication before going to work, after work, on weekends or even on public holidays. Our facilities open as early as 6am until 7pm every day to give people no reason to skip collecting their drugs. The collection process takes less than three minutes. This kind of dispensing method saves time and is cost effective,” Molene said.

He added that all their services were free, however, patients have to register with the company to have their medication delivered to the pharmacy.
