Police national commissioner promises quick response to problems facing Alexandra Police Station

ALEXANDRA – Sithole said they will also introduce drone policing and Alexandra Online Policing Action Plan mobile app that will help in fighting crime in the area.


The national and provincial leadership of men and women in blue recently descended onto Alexandra Township to engage residents on issues of crime.

The township, that is regarded as one of the country’s crime hotspots, has been on the spotlight following the death of Samantha Radebe (29) who was shot by the police on 15 January next to her home.

National Police Commissioner General Kehla Sithole, his deputy, Lieutenant General Ntombenhle Vuma and provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela attended the Ministerial Imbizo at Alexandra Stadium to unpack their strategic plans in the fight against crime and get opinions from the community members.

Following intensive engagements with the community, Sithole said they will start working on problems facing the local police station in seven days. He added that they will send a delegation to compile a comprehensive report from visible policing and inspectorate divisions consisting of members from both national and provincial level to check all operations at Alexandra Police Station. “We thank you for the contributions you have made in today’s meeting. All the complaints you have raised about operations at the station will be looked at. We will, in the next seven days, send a delegation from visible policing and inspectorate divisions to come and check how the station is operating. The team will then compile a report with recommendations on what need to be done at the station and send it to national office. We will only take actions after we have read the report.”

Sithole said they will also introduce drone policing and Alexandra Online Policing Action Plan mobile app that will help in fighting crime in the area. “In the next two days, I will be signing a drone policing plan and Alexandra will be among few police station in which this programme will be piloted. We urge all of you to bring technological ideas that will help us win this battle because, without you, it will be difficult for the police to win this battle against crime in Alexandra.”

He concluded that, on the issue of shortage of resources at Alexandra Police Station, Vuma will lead a team that will conduct a full analysis on what is required at the station to ensure that the station gets the right working resources to meets its objectives.
