Alex pensioners relive true love
ALEXANDRA – Valentine's Day re-lived by Alex pensioners.
The true meaning of Valentine’s Day was relived by 30 senior citizens of Alexandra who were feted by Nedbank and supermarket chain Boxer.
The elderly women and men, many of them now single for one reason or the other, had their memories of this day of love jogged by their guests over tea, juice, biscuits, chips and cake at the supermarket’s Alex outlet.
“It’s a long-forgotten day to many of us whose late partners used to give it meaning as a day of love,” said Elen Bowes who shared a table with beaming Mokgadi Morekhure and Ester Ratshefola.
They gladly took home the leftovers in a carry bag donated by the bank which has a branch at the store store. The bank’s Redibone Matlaga said, “The joint venture event is to appreciate our pensioner clients and the shop’s customers. Much as they would like to, many of them no longer celebrate this moment for various reasons and we wanted them to relive its true meaning including those without partners.”
