Parolee found in possession of unlicensed firearm and stolen goods in Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – The suspect was arrested by the Sandton trio task team in Alexandra.


The South African Police Service has hailed community members for their tip-off that led to the arrest of a 34-year-old male suspect who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and stolen goods.

The suspect was arrested by the Sandton trio task team in Alexandra.

“A 34-year-old man who was out on parole was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and stolen property as a result of tip-offs received by the Sandton trio task team in Alexandra on 31 January.

“The suspect was at a house in Alexandra and after the police went to the address to search it, a 9mm pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition and two empty magazines were found. They also found 20 rounds of ammunition for a .303 rifle and various stolen property in another room,” the police said in a statement.

Police said the suspect was detained at Alexandra Police Station and later positively identified and linked to house robberies that occurred in the Sandton policing precinct in December last year and January.

The suspect briefly appeared in Alexandra Regional Court on 3 February, was remanded in custody and was expected to appear soon for a bail application.
