Grade 10 on attempted murder charge

ALEXANDRA – Station dismisses stabbing learner's disappearance

A learner at East Bank Secondary School is to seek bail at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for alleged attempted murder of a fellow mate.

The Alexandra Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudule said the 18-year-old Grade 10 suspect reported in Alex News’ School stabbing shock [Week ending 1 November], was arrested the same week of the incident which occurred on 21 October in the school grounds. She said this dismissing suggestions that the suspect went into hiding after he had stabbed the victim three times – on the neck, back and hand as he brokered peace between the accused and a mate who were feuding over money. Magudule said the station also provided the Gauteng Department of Education space to engage with the detained boy.

Speaking guardedly, school principal Isaac Tloloe also indicated that the perceptions of his hiding could have been prompted by the examination period when learners do not all come to class while studying elsewhere. He said the boy admitted to stabbing the victim.
