The Alexandra Total Shutdown movement has suffered a tremendous loss after one of its founding members, Bobby Solomons, died on 29 August.

According to the family spokesperson Percy Ndaba, Solomons (45) died in Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital after a short illness.

Solomons was the spokesperson of the movement that brought Alexandra to a standstill in April this year protesting against poor service delivery in the area.

Sandile Mavundla who worked with Solomons said they have lost an intellectual as Total Shutdown movement.

“The big tree has fallen. The death of Bobby is a loss not only for us as the movement but a loss for the entire community of Alexandra. In his last words in the meeting we held in preparation of the reports from the Human Rights Commission and the office of the Public Protector, he urged us to take up the spear and intensify our fight against poor service delivery in Alex.”

Ndaba said the details of the funeral will be communicated with the public and members of the media in due cause.
