A call to community members to participate in this year’s Sam Buti Fun Walk

ALEXANDRA – The organiser of the fun walk said the funds raised through the event will buy sanitary towels and food that will be donated to the needy.

The Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa in partnership with local runners club, Run Alex, has urged community members to buy tickets in order to take part in this year’s Reverend Sam Buti Fun Walk event.

The church under the leadership of Reverend Nicholas Mashiane and the runner’s club recently hosted an activation event at KwaBhekilanga Sports Ground on 3 August.

According to Mpho Mothapo, the chief organiser of the fun walk, the activation event was meant to encourage locals to participate in the walk that will start on the corner of 5th Avenue and Selbourne Street to Altrec Sports Grounds on 14 September this year.

“Today we partnered with the local runners club to encourage locals to be part of the walk. The annual walk is organised by the church in partnership with local non-profit organisations in honour of a leader who fought for Alexandra to be what it is today. We call upon community members to buy tickets in order to participate in this year’s event.”

Mothapo added that the funds raised through the event will buy sanitary towels and food that will be donated to the needy.

Coordinator of Run Alex runners club Sphiwe Nkosi said his organisation was in full support of the event and all members of the club, the majority of whom are Comrades Marathon participants, will be taking part in the walk on 14 September.
