Midrand Police Station is investigating a case of assault on a medic by another from a rival ambulance company at a vehicle collision scene.
According to Captain Stephen Malatji, spokesperson of Alexandra Police Station which is part of the Joburg North Policing Cluster with the Midrand station, the incident occurred in the afternoon on 22 July along the R55 route. ” The victim with other crew members of Emer-G-Med Emergency Services arrived at the scene first and took control. As they attended to the injured, Dial-a-Medic Ambulance Services crew also arrived. “One of its crew members allegedly shouted at them.
“When they ignored him and carried on with their work, the accused rival member seemingly got frustrated and he allegedly insulted them. Later, he hit one of the medics who sustained a broken ear drum.”
In a statement Emer-G-Med said, “The victim of an unprovoked attack was taken to hospital and treated for facial laceration and a ruptured ear drum. He is also receiving trauma counselling. An assault case was opened and the case will also be reported to the health professions council of SA.”
Confirming the incident Midrand police spokesperson Constable Thabiso Silowa said the matter was under investigation and couldn’t shed light if there was any arrest. No response was obtained from Dial-a-Medic’s contact numbers 011 039 7290 and 076 100 4339.
